This first grader found all the computers in the center taken by other students, so she spontaneously took out this book, grabbed a piece of scrap paper, and started copying the Chinese characters.  My co-worker from Japan, Shuko, tells me that her handwriting is much better than that of most Asian students.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You can see a close-up of her penmanship &lt;a href="http://www.writersforliteracy.org/characters.jpg"&gt;here.&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I knew I had to take a photo of this special moment. I shared several copies of the photo with the family of this scholar.
